The handover ceremony of China’s first batch of aided power equipment to South Africa was held in South Africa

The handover ceremony for the first batch of China-aided power equipment for South Africa was held on November

30 in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. About 300 people including Chinese Ambassador to South Africa

Chen Xiaodong, South African Presidential Office Power Minister Ramokopa, South African Deputy Minister of Health

Dlomo and representatives from all walks of life in South Africa attended the handover ceremony.

Chen Xiaodong said in his speech that since the beginning of the year, power shortages in South Africa have continued

to spread. China immediately decided to provide emergency power equipment, technical experts, professional consulting,

personnel training and other support to help South Africa alleviate the power crisis. Today’s handover ceremony of aided

power equipment in South Africa is an important step for China and South Africa to implement the results of the Chinese

leader’s visit to South Africa. China will strengthen cooperation with the South and actively promote the early arrival of

follow-up power equipment to the South.

Chen Xiaodong pointed out that China’s provision of power equipment to South Africa reflects the Chinese people’s love

and confidence in the South African people, demonstrates the true friendship between the two peoples in times of adversity,

and will surely further consolidate the public opinion and social foundation for the development of China-South Africa relations.

Currently, both China and South Africa are facing the historical task of accelerating energy transformation and promoting

economic development. China is willing to strengthen policy alignment with South Africa, encourage and support enterprises

of the two countries to expand cooperation in wind energy, solar energy, energy storage, transmission and distribution and

other power energy fields, promote cooperation between the two countries in all fields, and build a high-level China-South

Africa community with a shared future.

Ramokopa said that the South African government and people sincerely thank China for its strong support. When South

Africa needed help the most, China generously extended a helping hand, once again demonstrating the unity and friendship

between the two peoples. Some China-aided power equipment has been distributed to hospitals, schools and other public

institutions across South Africa, and has been warmly welcomed by the local people. The South will make good use of the

power equipment provided by China to ensure that the people will truly benefit. The South looks forward to and has the

confidence to resolve the energy crisis as soon as possible with China’s help and promote national economic recovery

and development.

Dromo said that the health system is related to the health of the South African people, and electricity consumption ranks

among the top among all industries. Currently, major hospitals are generally facing greater pressure on electricity consumption.

South Africa sincerely thanks China for helping South Africa’s medical system cope with the challenge of power cuts, and looks

forward to strengthening cooperation with China to jointly improve the well-being of the two peoples.
